Monica’s eyes were dancing when she joined the dinner line at the Armory. Her two small children wore huge smiles as they looked up at her. “We are moving into our very own apartment tomorrow,” their mom announced.
This was the end of a long journey for Monica and her little family. Ever since the children’s father had left them, they had been struggling to maintain. In August, they lost their apartment and had been “couch-surfing” with friends and family ever since. As six-year-old Jason put it, “It’s a lot more fun to have company than to be company.”
Connecting with resources that she learned about at St. Francis House, Monica set to work getting their life back. On days when “being the company” had become too stressful, Monica and her children ate dinner at St. Francis House meal program at the Armory.
Now, three months after losing their apartment, Monica’s new job was going well and she had saved up enough for two months of rent. “I can’t begin to tell you how much the clothes and meals and encouragement from St. Francis House have meant to us,” she said. “We’re going to be OK now!”
