Tears of Gratitude

On October 28, 2014

Carolyn carefully laid out her paperwork as she began the process of renewing her clothing bank card for another year.  When the registration volunteer asked about her husband’s employment status, Carolyn’s eyes filled with tears.

“The company he worked for went out of business two months ago.  He hasn’t found steady work yet.  He goes out looking every day.  We found an eviction notice on our door yesterday.  We just don’t know where to turn.”

Further conversation revealed that her elderly father lived with them.  “If we lose the trailer, not only we but my father will have no place to live.”

A conversation with Carolyn’s landlord persuaded him to give them another week and to not charge them late fees.  Because of the generosity of our donors, St. Francis House was able to help with a portion of the rent.  The volunteer also gave Carolyn some ideas about where her husband could look for work.

Carolyn’s eyes now filled with tears of gratitude.  “I can hardly wait to tell my husband,” she said.  “He will be so relieved!  Thank you for helping us! I’m starting to have faith again that it’s all going to work out.”
